Today, the ALA announced its yearly award winners, including the Caldecott and Newbery Awards. Click here for the complete press release. YA book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper was the winner of the Coretta Scott King Author Award, which is very exciting.
Of course, what we are most concerned with is YALSA's Printz award for YA literature! The winner this year was American Born Chinese, a graphic novel (!) by Gene Luen Yang . The honors went to An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing by M. T. Anderson, The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak, and Surrender by Sonya Hartnett. Come and get 'em!
Also, the Margaret Edwards Award for a body of YA literature went to Lois Lowry. You probably know her best as the author of The Giver. It is great to see her recognized in this way.
